Chine McDonald is Director of Theos, a think tank established to explore the role of religion in modern society. She is author of God is not a White Man and, this year, Unmaking Mary: Shattering the myth of perfect motherhood.
In this conversation, recorded shortly after the U.K. election, Chine draws on Theos research into the voting intentions of those with and without strong religious beliefs. She refers to the Ipsos Veracity Survey and the British Social Attitudes Survey to explore the declining trust in politics and politicians, and its implications for democratic reform. Chine also refers to Robin Dunbar’s recent book How Religion Evolved: And Why It Endures.
Social activist and politician Katherine Zappone joins me at the the end of the conversation to reflect on what we learned.
